iGreenGadgets at the Maker Faire 2019

For the seventh consecutive year, Rome hosted the fair for innovation par excellence: Maker Faire – The European Edition. This event features thousands of original projects belonging to many different sectors. From green innovation to circular economy, and from eco-sustainable gadgets to robotics, all projects have a common focal point: they are pioneering in their own environment. This year, for the second time, iGreenGadgets was on the front line.

Maker Faire – The European Edition is an event promoted by the Azienda Speciale Innova Camera under license from Maker Media Inc. All the involved organizations have the same goal: to promote technological development in any form, and to enable synergies featuring multiple sectors, involving the public and private entities, may they be big or small.
It is surely not a coincidence that the European Edition is based in Rome. Even though Italians tend to think of themselves as not so technologically advanced as other nations, they can pride themselves of two winning characteristics in the innovations sector. These are an innate inventiveness and a distinctive and unique “know how”, different from that of any other country and derived from centuries of artisanal tradition and care for the product and the detail. These are values that the organizers of The Maker Faire decided to highlight and share with all the other European operators.

Maker Faire – The European Edition 2019: the greenest edition ever

Speaking of development, we surely cannot avoid mentioning green innovation; there cannot be innovation without attention to environmental impact, and this reality has now been acknowledged even by the most traditional thinkers. Already in the 2018 edition the Maker Faire had dedicated a whole pavilion to circular economy, valorizing businesses engaged in bioeconomy, green building and green tech, such as sustainable gadgets.
Maker Faire – The European Edition 2019, however, took a further huge step forward, deciding to become completely plastic free and as carbon neutral as possible. How? Using only certified energy derived from renewable sources, setting up ecostations for the correct disposal of waste, and also planting trees to form a wood in Guatemala, to counterbalance all the greenhouse gas produced during the event.
