Who is Rifiuti Zero Sicilia

Rifiuti Zero Sicilia was founded in 2009. Its goal is to propose a sustainable alternative to waste management in Sicily. The association was created in response to the regional government’s decision to build incinerators for waste disposal. However, from the beginning, the movement chose a different path. Instead of focusing on final disposal, it aims to prevent waste production. As a result, this approach puts reduction and respect for the European waste hierarchy at its core.

The Zero Waste strategy: prevention is better than disposal

The association’s vision is inspired by the international Zero Waste strategy. In particular, it follows the Ten Steps towards Zero Waste developed by emeritus professor Paul Connett. This goal cannot be achieved immediately. Instead, it requires a gradual process that involves the entire community. For this reason, the association collaborates with local authorities, institutions, and organizations across the island. In this way, it turns awareness into concrete and lasting actions.

The project in Librino with CO.pe

Since September 2023, Rifiuti Zero Sicilia has been a partner in the project “Giovani e Genitori al Centro”, promoted by CO.pe (Cooperazione Paesi Emergenti) in the Librino district of Catania. The project aims to combat educational poverty among minors and strengthen the local educational community. To achieve this, the association has taken part in training sessions, capacity-building activities, and workshops for citizens. The event on February 26, 2026 represents an important milestone. It is a moment to share the results achieved. The day includes artistic and musical activities, environmental awareness workshops, and the restoration of the mural created during previous meetings.

For this event, Rifiuti Zero Sicilia chose our plantable paper bookmarks. This is not just a simple sustainable gadget. On the contrary, it is an item perfectly aligned with their vision.
